Gold’s big comeback to fashion
Gold has invaded catwalks and streets (especially in France) in pants, sneakers, bombers, and most of all skirts. This is why I built a guide on how to wear a gold skirt when you’re over 30. It is especially created for body types hourglass, 8, and pear shape.
Gold skirts are very flashy pieces, but if styled correctly and accessorized sparingly, they can become a very elegant and chic piece. There are two main options: mini gold skirts, and pleated midi gold skirts.
3 ways to wear a mini gold skirt
The mini gold skirt is the perfect piece that gets you from desk to dusk. But how do you style a gold skirt?
Black, with its sleek and subtle elegance, is the safest and most common choice to wear a gold skirt.
Try a black buttoned-up shirt, and if you opt for prints, make sure they are decadent and have some gold hints in them. In my case, I chose a prints with insects which is decadent and has the same golden-beige tones as the skirt.
Alternatively, you can use black velvet. I opted for another big classic: the black velvet blazer.
Navy blue is also a subtle, elegant, but fresh way to pair a gold skirt. Again, opt for something that has no low neck, as the center piece is the gold skirt.
Important style advice
Wear a gold skirt with plain white sneakers (Stan Smith’s are perfect), black suede high knee boots, or golden ankle boots (another must have of 2019) if you wear blue on the top. No other colors, and no big zippers or visible logos.
Avoid wearing gold from head to toe: it’s a fashion faux pas.
You can, however, wear a gold top and transform your skirt into a dress. In this case, everything else must be plain black and I would wear no accessories other than very subtle earrings and 1 ring.
